The area surrounding Roselle was initially settled in the 1830s. Silas Meacham settled the area now known as Bloomingdale Township. Deacon Elijah Hough came to this area with his three children Oramel, Rosell, and Cornelia. After a career as a Chicago alderman and businessman, Rosell Hough decided to open the Illinois Linen Company at the corner of Roselle Road and Irving Park Road. He was also the President of the Chicago and Pacific Railroad Company. When it came time to print the train schedule that ran through this area, it was misprinted giving the town the name Roselle.
Homes in Bloomingdale and Roselle were built mainly between 1892 and 1916. They were designed as Victorian-style row houses and hold great quality in craftsmanship which can still be seen today. Due to this high quality, these houses can still be seen today throughout the neighborhoods in this area.
