The original name was supposed to be “Irvington” after the author Washington Irving but once discovered that another town in Illinois has that name it was decided to change it to Irving Park. When it came to the development of this neighborhood, mansions were built along Irving Park Boulevard between 1870-1874.

There is a variety of styles of architecture including Queen Anne, Victorian, American Foursquare, Italian homes, and bungalows. These structures have been well-kept and their beauty can still be seen today.
