Streeterville is an upscale neighborhood full of wonderful and unique history.
There are some of the best restaurants and bars here and many fun activities too.
The land now known as Streeterville was initially claimed by George Streeter in the 1800s when his boat became stuck in a sandbar on Lake Michigan. Streeter took advantage of this area by renting out the land for public waste disposal. Despite his claim, there were legal issues concerning Streeter’s ownership of the land. This dispute went on for many years and Streeter even gathered an army of supporters with rifles and bayonets. In the 1920s, Streeterville became the prime real estate of Chicago. This includes the luxury shopping of North Michigan Avenue, the Michigan Ave bridge, and many prominent hotels on Lake Shore Drive.
Streeterville is composed of some of the most well-known buildings in the city of Chicago. Most of the architecture was built during the 1920s and holds Beaux-Arts and Gothic revival architecture that is distinct to this neighborhood. Some of the most popular buildings include the John Hancock Center and Water Tower Place.
Beatrix combines American cuisines with a wine bar and bakery. For simple food made elegant, try WoodWind located in the heart of Streeterville. Cupitol Coffee and Eatery has a European-style counter service that offers amazing coffee, juices, and breakfast options.
AceBounce has the best drinks and games for an adventurous night out. Try the Broken Shaker for great cocktails made by professional mixologists. Crushed By Giants Brewing Company is perfect for a great craft beer but also has a full bar to fill the needs of everyone in your party!
There are so many places to go and things to do in Streeterville. One of the most famous attractions is Navy Pier where you can find many fun activities such as the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Children’s Museum, and Centennial Wheel. For a nice walk, there is the lakefront trail and many beaches to enjoy the warm summer weather. On a rainy day, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art. When in Streeterville, you will never be bored.
