River North is one of the most populated neighborhoods of art galleries in the world right after Manhattan. It is home to a lively community and nightlife on and near Hubbard Street.
In the 20th century, River North was a very industrial neighborhood with many factories in the area. Due to the thick smoke produced by these factories, sunlight was often blocked. It was also a transportation hub and storage facility for ship and retail purposes. River North is home to infamous stories of the prohibition and bootlegging operations. In this neighborhood, the hit of O’Banion took place in the 1920s and by the 1970s was turned into a popular punk rock bar named after him.
River North was built for commercial real estate for a more skid row and industrial group. Over the past century, it has become one of the most popular and upscale neighborhoods in the city with art galleries and many great apartment buildings.
River North offers many different fun activities. Head to the House of Blues for great music and entertainment. Take a trip down to the Riverwalk, and grab a bite to eat. Visit the Merchandise Mart built by Marshal Fields in the 1920s and the numerous art galleries. There is something to do for everyone in River North.
